You are so right. Where I work, our managers are all about flirting or the lady being jealous. Our store can't keep any workers because they all quit after about 4 or 5 weeks.

Poor Management Urban Planet

I have a teenage daughter who has dreamed for the past 3 years of working at Urban Planet. A while ago she finally came of age and started working there. She loved the STAFF she worked with however the Management leaves a LOT to be desired. She has since left the store due to management behaveiour. Here are a couple examples. (this is in Edmonton AB and is between 2 stores)
One manager e-mails repeatedly that two particular staff members are stealing money. FALSE FALSE FALSE. Thoes two individuals had people count their tills for them and NEVER money missing. Rather than growing up and acting like a manager they continue. Does head office not know that they can be liable for these accusations. Slander (especially by a manager) is against the law and punishable.
Secondly, one NEW manager keeps flirting with all the girls. These are young girls for god sake. Get a grip! Where is the CEO?
Last but not least, why isn't the management who is behaveing this way fired? All these young girls who dreamed of working for U.P. (the store with the BEST clothes)who ended up dissapointed with their first job experience and with their favorite store. It's no wonder that good service is no where to be seen these days, managers no longer lead by example, they are obviously part of the problem. I never shop twice in a place where I receive poor customer service wether it be 7-11 or U.P. but in this case, I can very well see why employees just don't care. It's time to get the chairman and CEO's of these companies involved in whats going on. If anyone knows of the e-mail address for Urban Planet's Head Office, I would appreciate you either forwarding this message or posting it so I may send it.
To all you good people and good workers out there, keep it up. A customer and fellow staff member always remembers the good stuff.

Why they close?

Franklin Mills, PA has an Urban Planet store and everything was $5 on sale.

Big sign 80% off in the window.

They were selling the store fixtures for $10. Bought my daughter many dresses, sweats, jackets all for $5 each.

Cashier told me they will be closed saturday.
No refunds or Exchanges.

Took off the price tags and sold us the merchandise without the tags.

Urban Planet Clothing Store (the one in Prince George BC Canada) is very nice and the staff there was very helpful! There clothes are great prices and I will come back and spend even MORE money in August for back to school clothing! There style is so awesome but, GARAGE and stitichs are awesome, too! :)

poor service good prices

from reading the last comment i can't agree more. i have now been to this store twice and each time the young staff were of no assistance. the girl at the till did not say one word to us.the other two girls were chatting among themselves about how tired they were and that they coul not wait to get out of there.the store had maybe 7 people in it. i would hate to see what will happen when they get more than 15 cutomers at once. this is at the new location in the golden mile mall in regina sask.i would really like the managment to watch the age an attitude of the very young staff they are hiring.when the store and staff care about their customers the costomers will always come back.

in my opinon every one think diferent Im the one who go to any store and I like when the people who work there ask me if I need something that make me feel that they care about what the costumer want and need, I go usually to urban planet like one time for week and I can said that NOT ALWAYS is the same sometimes you find the nice people sometimes NOT and that not always URBAN PLANET foult it is true sometimes is not the best costumer service but you never think that maybe the had the training but it is diferent if they never use it because they dont want!.
so the next time dont said the store is bad just give a opinion but respect

I think Urban Planet are scammers!

I bought 5 gift certificates for Christmas this year. A couple of days before Christmas, one of my kids casually mentioned that she'd heard that Urban Planet store, in Owen Sound, was closing!

I said WHAT, are you sure??!!

It is true. The kids went shopping yesterday (Dec.27) and the store is just about cleaned out. They have a small sign that says, Lease Expiry, in their window. Never did anyone even hint to me that the store would be closing at the beginning of January when I purchased 5 gift cards. I find that unacceptable. I am going to figure out who to send a letter of complaint to.

Additionally, after 2 of the 5 gift card recipients went shopping there yesterday, I asked if they'd spent all of their 'money on the card'. One has $1 left and the other has $3 left. Why didn't they get that change in real money? Instead, those balances are left on their card. Unless they go back and buy something else from the picked over merchandise, that money is just thrown away. It's not a lot but that's not the point. It's a matter of principle, which obviously 'the powers that be' at Urban Planet do not have!!!

You're not the only one...

I have had the same experience at several Urban Planets that I have gone to: Renfrew, Sudbury (Southgate Mall & New Sudbury Mall). The customer service in ALL three has been horrible. If it weren't for the fact that you can find well priced items, I would never return. Working in customer service myself, I expected to be treated with the same service I give each of my customers on a daily basis. There is little effort required for a smile and a "Hi, how are you doing today?". That's about it. And for the cashiers that fail to even acknowledge you at the register, that's just rude. If you're wondering why customers aren't nice to you, it's simply because there's no reason why a person would be friendly with you if they don't receive the same treatment first!

Urban Planet should smarten up or they're poor customer service could keep them in the red.

Urban Planet is amazing! It is my favourite clothing store. It has TONS of different types of clothes, at GREAT prices. I adore it. I'm sorry that you were not satisfied with the customer service, but it's an AMAZING place "MANY other clothing stores" just don't compare.

It does take so little...

Diane, your story illustrates beautifully that it takes so little to make a customer happy. Just acknowledging that you're there, and that they're happy to see you!

The sad thing is that if you decide to really give good customer service, that you'll have so much more fun in your work! Plus, more customers will come... more opportunities to share the joy!

I Love the store Urban Planet. The sales staff has never been rude to me, and the prices are great!

As a teenager, its really hard to find a store so perfect. I'm 15 years old and my pants size is size zero. Shopping at any other store I can not find any jeans that fit me without looking in the kids section. And thats really emarassing for a 15 year old. Urban Planet has my size. I can still wear whats in style for my age even though im built smaller than most teens.

And as for the staff, sure, they dont run up to you as soon as you come in and say "How can I help you? Your highness" but im glad they don't because then I can look around the store without being bothered by a liar sales person that will do anything to make me buy the most expensive thing in the store even if its ugly. And if I ever need any help, I ask them and they help me.

You get what you pay for..... How nice can you expect someone to be in a store where nothing is priced over $30? I guess I would be rude and crabby too if I had to work for over two hours to buy a crappy tank top for $16.

About Urban Planet

Back to school has been very hard on all of the staff of Urban Planet in the seway mall, it is a bit normal we had an off day. It happens to the best of us and sometimes you have to deal with it. And I can tell you that our system is a lot better now since our staff is permanent etc and you'd be happy to know that we pretty much always have a greeter or two at the doors and the rest of us doing our very best to keep the story clean in order to serve our customer with ease. I think it would be worth it to come back, maybe check out our cute pyjamas for the holidays, you'd probably see that our staff is much more effective now.
