Be a part of the solution, not the problem!
by: Allen

Nancy,

The customer sounds like a negative 'whiner' to me. The type that would complain of losing a night's sleep because there was a 'pea' under the 10 mattresses slept on.

To know whether a store is the 'worst' you would have to have gone to each and every one. As a retail worker and former manager you ought to know how to build a bridge and get over it-in a positive constructive manner instead of carrying a grudge. People like yourself seldom leave a place better than they found it-which is what I taught my children to do.

If you paint all TSC stores with the same brush because of one store's inadequate inexperience, you would make an 'inadequate' painter.

You will never be a good teacher until you understand what it means to be a good student.

Thank you... from a current retail sales employee and former retail store manager. Could say a lot more but it would be for the benefit of others reading this as I doubt anyone with Nancy's attitude would be able to work positively with this feedback and run with it.

(No, not currently or formerly with TSC).

Sometimes it's you...
by: Anonymous

Just a note to let people know that it is not always the staff's fault. Many times I have been in this store and have not been able to speak to a representative because there are snotty people like yourself who believe that they are higher than everyone else yelling at the or putting them down. If they are "unknowledgeable and useless" and unable to help you, either take the time to help them learn something new (everyone does not know everything) or open your own store where you daughter can quit high school and run the pet department (because you know....she is JUST THAT SMART).

BUT...on a nicer note, the staff of the store in question DO help and are very personable. If I recieve an "I don't know" from someone they have ALWAYS sent me in the direction of someone who does know.

As well, if you have a horse and cannot compare feeds maybe you shouldn't own one. It's not difficult to feed based on what you need, and believe it or not the chart on the wall works (if you can read of course.) Off the top of my head a feed that would be comparable is the Rolling Acres Eff (extra fat & fibre)...among others (I mean the similar name doesn't mean a thing right?)

All in all, get a life. As I said, if you are so unhappy with the store and have the time to write a blog, open your own.

TSC in Peterborough
by: Ralph

I have had the same experience in the Peterborough store. Usually is is hard to find the staff, then they point to the area of the store that I should look. When I get to the items there is hardly any prices.

Most times it takes longer to check out and pay than to find the items myself.

I now only go to the store as a last resort as it is only a mile from my home.

same thing in Alliston
by: Anonymous

TSC store in Alliston used to be a beautifull small store loaded with usefull stuff for farms. They had plenty of knowledgeable people, always the same ones that could help you until you were satisfied.

They were all living toward the day that they could finally do their thing in a bigger store. An when it finally came allon earlyer this year we expected allot of it.

Now it is the most boring store in town. Its hard to guess where to find the product you are looking for. There is a lott of city people stuff and less farm stuff than ever.

They hardly restock and usually because the computer claims they still have plenty in stock. Nobody seems to be allowed to order it in and you have to wait for weeks to get it.

Everybody who worked there, (And they were really good) has left or will soon leave.

Then they had this thing where you suddenly had to show your ID to charge to the farm account. That eliminates the reason of having one in the first place, doesn't it, you wanna be able to get stuff fast without going in the house to fetch a wallet.

I dont know what is going on, but it is not good. It's a store for occasional city people now, and their personel has to deal with a lot of complaints from their good old customers. The nearest TSC from here is in Orangeville but if I read the story from Smith Falls, I wonder if it would make any difference to go there.

I go to Princess Auto and The Coop store in Barrie now. At least they know what a hooftrimm knife is. And that you need both left and right ones.

Reitmans - Smiths Falls, Ontario
by: Anonymous

I would like to also comment on another store in Smiths Falls that has the most unfriendly staff.
They smiled as we went into the store,(phony) but, when we asked them for assistance, they gave us the "don't bother me" attitude.
Myself and a good friend were there recently (2nd week of September 2007) and we felt like we were intruding when we got into the store. (they leered at myself and my lady friend after initially smiling at us)
When we had to interrupt the two girls who were supposedly working (they were standing around talking amongst themselves) We were treated as though we were interferring in their conversation.
Now, is this how you run a business? I ask this to the manager, who conveniently was not there,...I ASKED.

Not only there to take your money
by: Erwin

Many retail businesses forget that the people they put in the store are not only there to take your money.

Knowing the product, helping the customer find the right product and decide, those are traits that make a difference.

In all fairness, I feel that the girl in your 3rd encounter at least showed the right attitude, trying to help you. Thanks for your story!
