Phone monopoly will not last

A monopoly can often be an excuse to not deliver customer service... as customers are stuck there anyway.

Between a rock and a hard place!

But phone companies should be aware right now that phone monopolies will not last. Governments are working hard to dismantle monopolies everywhere, as they interfere with how the market works (not always a good idea, but your case shows that competition usually doesn't hurt). At least, this is the case in Europe.

And those companies that operate a fixed network (instead of a mobile phone network) will find themselves in competition with mobile phone companies anyway. A good percentage in Holland have only a mobile phone in their house. Not even a fixed phone anymore!

So much for the monopoly...
