Noise Canceling Microphones
This
process is completed by using ‘active
noise control’.
Active noise
control involves producing sound of opposite frequency arriving at the
earphones, resulting in destructive
interference hence canceling out the noise.
Other
use of noise canceling is to filter out unwanted noise to let a person
enjoy music or rest while traveling in noisy environments.
Pros and Cons
The advantages of noise canceling technology are obvious. In office or call center environments this technology has become critical for better communication with customers. Some airlines employ such systems to allow passengers a quiet rest despite the continuous humming of engine.
They let people enjoy music without turning the volume loud and damaging their ears.
However, noise canceling has its disadvantages too. This technology is only effective against continuous sound and not sudden noise. From time to time mobile signals produce additional noise.
Headsets with this technology are heavier and consume more power. Sometimes the anti noise produces noise in itself!
