Arnold Clark - Cumbernauld Scotland
I purchased a new car (or so I was told) from Arnold Clark in Cumbernauld Scotland. The reason I say 'so I was told' was that the salesman said that the car was preregistered by the garage and that I would get it at a reduced rate.
I thought it was a good deal and paid for the car (cash). I also bought a service package at the same time so that I wouldn't have any unexpected bills to pay when the service was due.
The time came around for the annual service and I delivered the car to the garage. When the service was completed I got a phone call to say that the bill was £75. Seemingly the brakes were seized and that these were not covered in the service plan...
I wouldn't have minded about paying for brake pads (shoes) but why would the brakes seize in a new car that had only done 3000 miles? Then they said that the problem was because the car was second hand and not new!
I still had to pay for the repair but I felt that it was a bit of a liberty to expect me to pay for a repair that was initiated whilst the car was in their ownership and that they hadn't bothered to service the vehicle before I got it.
So a word of warning - buying a preregistered car is actually buying a second-hand car so insist on a service being carried out before you take it from the garage. Do this irrespective of the number of miles on the milometer.
Mind you: I change my car every four years so Arnold Clark have lost a customer because I feel that they fleeced me for a few pounds.
