How to Get Good Service from the Air Canada Call Centre

Here is a little trick for dealing with the Air Canada Call Centre in India. I have tried it many times and it worked everytime.

First when you call the Customer Service line and are prompted for service in English or French, select FRENCH. This will ensure that you are patched through to a Canadian agent (they don't speak French in India.) Then say "Bonjour, do you speak English?" If they say yes, explain to them that you would like to speak to a Canadian and when you phone the English line, you are sent to India. Make sure you get the agent's name and use it as often as you can throughout the conversation.

The agent will be more than happy to help you. They feel appreciated and they probably agree with you on the topic of outsourcing jobs outside of Canada.

Try it and see if it works for you...of course, be polite, that goes a long way!

This happens when call centers become cost centers

I'm afraid that there are managers out there, that only have a clear view of the cost of call centers, not the profits that good service can bring...

In that scenario, customer service is only there as a 'necessary evil'... if only those pesky customers would stop calling!

In this scenario, it's best if the customers totally give up on the business. Cost of the call center can be reduced until zero. Naturally, profit will also be (below) zero. Not a good business strategy.
